Notes from past recipients |
The St. Xavier Alumnae Association Scholarship Fund was established for students entering Catholic High Schools and who are sponsored by members of the association. Sponsors need to have paid their dues for at least three years, prior to submitting the application. |
“You bless this world just by being you. I told God, Thanks, ‘cause you bless my heart too”. My family has made many sacrifices in order for my brother and I to attend Catholic schools and your scholarship is greatly appreciated |
A three-member scholarship committee evaluates the applications. The application contains financial information, student grades, family information (like # of siblings) and an essay from the student. The application was revised in 2019 by the committee. The chair hopes these changes will make submission easier for the student’s family and selection more informed for those who evaluate the content. |
“You made such a difference, and it is so deeply appreciated. Thank you for your generous help over the past four years. Without it I would not have been able to attend The Prout School.” |
Scholarship funds come from members; mostly through donations which they make when they pay their dues. Gratefully, there are several large donations ($500.00 or more). Most of these are made in memory of deceased graduates by family members. In one case there is a bequest which generates income from a trust and supports one or more scholarships per year. In 2018, nineteen scholarships were awarded. |
From Bishop Hendricken High School, “Your willingness to assist is a testimony to your commitment to our mission … as we continue to provide a quality Catholic education for the young men who attend our school.” |
The names and amounts of winners are announced at Homecoming. Later that night, the president calls each family and speaks to the student or the parent to confirm the news. After that the association’s treasurer notifies the school and sends the money to the school on behalf of the student. |
“On behalf of Saint Raphael Academy, I would like to thank St. Xavier Alumnae Association for their recent award. This support will certainly make …the fees more affordable for this family. St. Raphael has offered a superior Catholic education for over ninety years. Again, thank you.” |

“I want to thank you for the generous scholarship that my son received from St. Xavier Alumnae Association. I have been laid off and this will truly help at this difficult time. We can not express how much we appreciate it.” |
